What Kind Of Bird Is This (deceased) ?

That’s cleared something up for me. I saw one the day before yesterday whilst walking the dogs. Initially I thought it was a wren as so small but it had a flash of gold and it’s tail wasn’t cocked upwards.
Wondered what it was.

We have a Sparrow hawk that comes through every day as well (he’s already been this morning) fails more than he has success though.
The Buzzards around by me vary massively in size from yearlings being quite small to some that look like eagles.

 

If the stripe was slightly orange then it could have been a Firecrest. I’ve only ever seen one of those.

 

It was definitely gold, not orange.

Well that sent me down a Rabbit hole of sound clips, turns out that they do this to Lions using a Tigers roar in it’s place.

 

Really? Well every day’s a school day!

I follow a few nature accounts on Instagram that post clips which are basically snuff movies featuring lions, hyenas and African wild dogs inflicting all sorts of horrific depredations on various unfortunate herbivores, and I must admit I’d noticed that the only vocalisations lions seem to make is a kind of deep rumbling sound. Thanks for clearing that up
