What Litre Track Bike?

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Advikaz, Nov 10, 2016.

  1. Not heard or read anywhere changing gearing affects electronics (but don't know anything about the engine control gizmo) but tyres sometimes can affect TC

  2. Want to buy my 1198 make a good track bike?!

  3. I guess it depends whether TC works on wheel speed sensors or engine speed sensors vs front wheel speed ?

  4. But the rear and the front shouldn't change for gearing, should it? The front and rear should still be travelling at the same speed. Speedo may be out tho

  5. If it uses wheel speed sensors, then it'll be fine
If it uses engine speed sensors tied in with which hear you're in, it'll throw a wobbly
I ran a 55 rear for a bit, and that didn't cause it an issue, so I don't know

  6. I have heard about tyre profiles (actually, brands as much as profiles) but not gearing. Interested to know if this is actually fact.

  7. I read it when I googled changing sprockets or gearing on google.

Seen it a few times that 'apparently' the trioptions boys have to throw the bikes on the dyno when they change the gearing to tell get the bike to learn the gears or something. Software related iirc.

Will try and find some examples

  8. Similarly others have said they haven't...just done some quick google research and most don't mention in on ZX10, BMW, R1 is a possible because it using gear position and revs, but I wonder if that more to do with power delivery modes than TC. A tyre is either slipping or its not, the gearing won't affect that calculation (?!). With profile its different (I guess) because the height and pitch of lean angle will change and it will expect a different result when calculated.

  9. Might also be quickshifter if it is matching engine revs to gear and speed?
Someone should read the owners manual. The 1299 manual covers it, so maybe 899 one does?...

  10. I'm not sure how the dyno would help as it's only spinning up the rear wheel
The system on my ZX10R works off the wheel speed sensors on the hub rings, so I can change gearing as required

  11. Yes, but with changed gearing the revs at that speed would be different. So at a set speed when changing up to 3rd it knew the revs to match, but now the revs will be slightly out for the same speed... maybe it has to have a run (agreed, road would probably be easier than dyno) to figure out what speeds it does in what gears at what revs? As mentioned though, the 1299 has a setting (tyre learning mode) that the manual says you should use when changing tyre or when changing gearing... I would expect if the 1299 has a setting to do it, it might be unlikely for the 899 to do it automatically?....

  12. Just change the gearing,no need to do anything else, can you imagine a race weekend with all the 899 bikes lining up for a dyno for a gearing change.

  13. I've ordered a 45T rear for now, see how I go with that

  14. Advikaz - Any movement on this yet ?
I did notice the 1299SL's are now all sold out if you were one of the lucky ones ? :)

  15. I'm going to track the 899 mate, already started ordering some bits and bobs !

    Thanks for asking buddy

  16. I've got painted DP fairings for sale if you are interested? I put a thread up in the for sale section.

Re the calibration; it's for when you change tyre brands. You just press the button and ride for a few hundred metres at 30mph. The 1299 and I think the 959 have it, the 1199 and 899 do not. I guess it could make a little difference but I've never noticed it, the general consensus is that you can go 10% either way and it's fine.

  17. Just 1299. 959 doesn't have it. That's what I mentioned earlier about the 1299 owners manual advising you to do after changing tyres or gearing.

  18. *** just realised you already replied to the fairing thread :)

No worries bud, usually I'd be interested but I've smashed my way through pre wedding bills etc this month
