What Next For Oap?

  1. Respect! Whatever takes your fancy, but personally I'd be tempted by the Panigale R...

  2. I sold my v4s to get the Pani R. Each to his own. I love it.

  3. I’d take a late 1299R all day... Followed by the FE! But I’d want the full Akropovic system, Not just the wheelbarrow handles. But still quite a difference in price so you need to ask if the FE’s worthy of the extra dollars! .... Personally I think not:cool:

  4. There is no 1299r is there? That is the FE tagged variant. 1299R FE. Which is based on SL2 and not homologated for racing. And the larger engine.
2015 on Panigale R is SL1 based, non semi auto suspension and is homologated for racing. And the smaller engine.

  5. So, if my understanding of reading and previous replies is right, I’m looking at an “1199 R” generation 2 with the smaller engine and ‘manual’ suspension, or the 1299R FE with the larger engine and the electronic gizmos all over? The latter for another £8-10K?

  6. Save yourself £8-10K!!!

  7. Yes. But look around, there have been a few almost zero miles for 25k. The one at completely motorbikes with 78 miles has been there at least 18 months if they still have it. Worth a punt on aged stock :upyeah:

  8. The easy way is that it’s simply a Panigale R. The cc is 1198. It is the last homologation bike of the generation. The 1199r has underbelly Termi pipes as standard. The Panigale R has Titanium Acrapvic underbelly as standard.
    Ride it and enjoy it.

  9. Rode one in the 70’s in fairness bloody quick for a 50cc moped.

  10. There are quite a few 1299FEs up for sale across the internet. It suggests they are not highly sort after.
I would go 1199R for something a bit special.

  11. Thanks all, for the help here.
Any particular things I should watch out for, or any good/bad sales outlets ?

  12. You may be paying in advance for your own cremation. The 1299 burns. It gets very very hot and will boil yer spuds. You slide up the tank under braking. Other than that, mines been fine. Although I don't like the fairing screws. They rattle off like confetti.

  13. Slower than an AP50 though, especially the Blue version...

  14. My AP50 was the fastest thing in town!!

Partly due to it having a A100 motor that slid straight in:joy: Brakes were still appalling though o_O

Then one day the Rotary disc valve decided to exit via the carburettor  what a mess that made!

  15. Things becoming more concrete, following all the advice and discussion. Thanks
I think I should save myself the £10K and plump for the Panigale R generation 2. Any advice on common faults/things to check and watch for would be most appreciated. I hear they’re hot on the nethers, but it won’t be taken into towns deliberately, and would generally be an old man’s high days and holidays bike...

  16. Just look for the normal crash damage stuff. Dfsh. Original is best. Avoid any “modded” examples. Any accessories must be quality.
Heat is no worse if not better than modern Pani range.

  17. Thanks. Appreciate this

  18. Yes. Looking hard at that one. They seem keen to deal. Only hassle is the length of England to travel!

  19. That’s a nice example. Bradders will ride it up for you ;)
