It’s still pretty lively there nowadays as it’s one of the few remaining areas of London that hasn’t been gentrified. Doubtless, one day, the Guardian will do a gushing puff piece in the Saturday property section so that will all change, and after being relieved of their iPads at knifepoint on the night bus, a whole new generation of Farrow & Ball and farmers’ market incomers will discover that when Jemima the journalist described the locale as “vibrant”, what she actually meant was “absolutely fvcking terrifying once the sun goes down”
There's 3 I wish I'd kept DT125MX that I blew up and fitted with a 175MX engine: I had so much fun with that bike as a teenager once I'd developed this so I could camp out in the woods overnight: Then my 350YPVS fitted with MelLemoto fairing etc: And my Z1000H that I brought as a crashed wreck, had for nearly 30yrs and slowly developed: I had to sell this and my other classic Z1 stuff to pay a bill, but with what was left I brought my first Ducati, a 97 M900, and it's all sort of snowballed from there.
Ypvs on my should have bought list. One of my best early memories was a lad wheeling past the bingo hall at the criteria lights I’m gosport when I was probably 15
My first bike was a DT125 (ended up in a canal a few weeks later due to a navigational mishap) and I currently have a DT175. It’s an absolutely awesome bike and apart from green-laning, it’s also pretty much my “go-to” for local journeys.
1. Kawasaki Bajaj RTZ 2. Yamaha RD 350 3. Honda VF750F 4. Hero Honda CBZ 5. Yamaha RD 350 6. Suzuki Shogun 7. Kawasaki Eliminator 400 8. Yamaha RD 350 9. Kawasaki Ninja 650 10. Kawasaki Z800 11. Kawasaki Ninja 1000 12. Ducati Hyperstrada 939 This is my list in order of owning them, I miss each of them and wish I could keep them all but alas...
Had a soft spot for the Thruxton R, loved that engine, this was an early 2016 after I’d spent a few quid on wheels and a straight through exhaust and other bits n bobs ... and of course this.....
No mate, just my pikes peak and s1000r, the guy who brought my 899 still has it, doesn’t use it much, has it serviced at JHP, always ask the question when I pop over to Coventry and believe it’s well looked after, fate tells me I will get it back one day
i work round there all the time, the area has changed architecturally, but theres a lot of burnt out and derelict buildings, the round about outside catford station has about 20 tower blocks on it. go in the cafe deptford high street and you'll hear proper south london lingo but definitely very lively, and walking a dog at 2am is not recommended
These two. The 636 because it was soooo sweet handling (it had been set up by a racer, ex track day bike) and the Tricolore. One of the best looking Ducati. The nasty carbon things on the tank were painstakingly removed. They were stuck on with clear silicone took many hours… Only sold as I was moving to France at the time. Sound was fantastic with the Termis, surprisingly quick too.
These have popped up a few times. I have no knowledge of them. Clearly a good bike with the 1200 boxer and engine and weight saving
For me, beautifully put together, oozed quality, and the best handling bike I have ridden. The downside was the motor didn't really live up to expectations and needed to be constantly worked really, really hard... needed more poke! And you rarely came across another one...
my Aprilia Pegaso 650. cheep as chips. super easy to ride all year round and was happy to do so. handled well with no worries scraping pegs in the wet. reliable as ferk (once i sussed the starting method when it had stood still for 6days or more on the rare occasion that it did) easy to service with the v,lil spare time that i have.
