What Whiskey Are You Drinking?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by West Cork Paul, Nov 14, 2018.

  1. I remember years ago Asda blend being the clear winner in top whisky circles. I like a peaty malt but after 2 it will be Grouse :D

  2. Aly Bain described Black Bottle as "the best cooking whisky in the world". I have to agree, it's really good.

But I’ve just been given this as a gift from the sister in law that looks a little special:

  4. the other day, A rare Macallan 1926 Valerio Adami 60 Year Old went for £825,000 – or more than $1 million –breaking the previous hammer price of £702,347 set in October 2018.
could you resist having a snifter?

  5. I've never understood whisky collecting. Why do people spend thousands of pounds on something they can't do anything with. They can't drink it nor open the bottle. All they can do is possess it, look longingly at it and, hopefully, sell it to some other mug when the illusion wears off.

  6. i guess its a bit of history and the mystique of it all.
i supose its a bit like having the disposable cash to be able to hang ducatis on yer wall.

  7. I agree, I have a bottle of 1976 Laphroig bought on a whim (not as investment) and unopened for a few years (forgot about) then I heard it was worth about £800 :astonished: I think I will save it for a rainy day and then enjoy it - or maybe pay off the mortgage if the value really increases (I don't think)

  14. I just had a look at my whiskies. I have Grouse, Chivas Regal, Glen Fiddich 12yr old, Loch Lomond single malt, Talisker Storm and Highland Park Viking Honour 12 yr old.
But I'm really a rum drinker. The current stock is OVD (my staple and a favourite), Flor de Caña 12yr old, Doorlys XO, Black Tot and Ron Zacapa Centario 23 ( a beautifully smooth rum but 50 quid + a bottle). Anybody else into rum?

  16. In 1991 I was on Tortola in the BVIs and the Pussers Rum factory caught fire. The stream that flowed past it was alight. My mate got the insurance job as he was there as well.

  17. Shandy
