Tbh nor do I just that as they are different, and seem to be the only difference, what else can it be...but don't be put off, it wasn't why I sold the bike. The only issue i has was it would sometimes rev at 4k and not stop when hot but think that was related to a worn part off the throttle somewhere
The brakes are rather wooden and lack feel, in comparison with my 749. Apart from that, and the comedy fuel gauge, I think they are great, tour , commute or scratch they deliver. Unfortunately got taken off mine yesterday, by un-turning SMIDSY.
When mines gets above 5,000 miles, I might put some proper pads in. Maybe that will jake a difference. Collected mine yesterday. I was going to trade it in for a 1200, which is an incredible bike. TBH, as much as I loved the 1200, I really like the little bike too. The 1200 is a serious bike. When you whack the throttle open, serious things happen. On this, it's still fun, it can still throw you off, but it's less 'serious' in a way. More enjoyable. duke, are you ok?
Bit of a bruised leg, but otherwise I'm OK. Muttley is not so lucky, I fear too much panel damage to make repair worthwhile. Got to speak to the insurance company on Monday.
bummer, hope you mend up quick duke and get a tidy payout to put towards a new toy DS1000 is great lump, but fitting monster/SS swinger on a multi engine is not so easy unless you have engineering means and ability. better to find a monster 1000, s2r1000 or 1000ss engine imho
Glad your Ok Duke, sad about your mut though . This thread is exactly what I'm interested in, and the reason I want a mulltystrada is cuz its reputedly got a comfortable pillion seat. Currently I have an 07 S2R, its a great bike and also a reliable bike, its also got loads of performance and its economical too, I can easily get 60 to a gallon out of it, and then there's the fact its possibly the prettiest Ducati monster ever ? BUT my Mrs hates its seat and refuses to ride more than 10 to 15 miles on it anymore. I would love a mutly 1100 and I see that they are available at affordable prices. As to the Mullties reliability I ain't so sure though ? In addition to the defective dash (already mentioned) there's question of worn valve guides, expanding and leaking petrol tanks, busted engine casings in area where they are squeezed between frame members, and even broken frames where the ehxausts, as well as the pillion seat fall off (but this concerned only the very earliest multies I belive), but what a great bike if one could secure the right example, I even remember reading a review of the 1200 when it first came out, where it was pitted directly against the 1100 and it was decide there was much less of a difference between them as all the hype would have led one to believe.
For you, Chris, I'd have no hesitation in recommending the ST series bikes. I bloody loved my ST2, and apart from one minor electrical glitch (connector vibrated loose) was 100% reliable. I had faith to take that bike anywhere, even ragged it round the Nordschlieffe. Thing with a Mutley is, you've got to want a mutley. The STs are far better value I think. And you missus'll love the seat
The ST2 was always on my mind Figaro, and even years before I plumbed for the S2R, and also the ST3 too, until I tried its clutch pull,!!! that's what clinched it, ST3 wanted a popeye forearm to work the cutch, not comfortable, and detracting from the fun I thought. I tried the 1100 wet clutch recently and it didn't seem all that bad. yep the ST? seat does look comfy though, a long park bench even
ST 2 needs more effort imho to get it cracked on. But god fun. They all have issues, I found my St2 was the only Duke i've had which was unreliable, especially the electrics, and unless I was twapping it I used to get like tennis elbow pain after 45 mins in the sadle. Would kill me all week
Chris, the power delivery on the mutley is so relaxed that I would have no hesitation of putting my boys or my wife on the back. The S4Rs on the other hand...
i got over 140 out of my 1000 ds down hill coming out the pyrenese !! felt a bit skittish !! but stable up to 130 no probs one up ! good brake pads and regular fluid change they are okay
I was quite surprised how happy my fuglystrada was to wallop up to top speed. It felt sprightly at all speeds to be honest, and was bloody ace down the local B-roads. I just never fell for it in the same way I did the ST2. I bloody loved the ST2, and only sold it cos I convinced myself I needed more power.
I've just bought a 1000 sds myself great bike had a great 45 mile ride today on back roads what's not to like ?
