What's Planned For 2017?

Discussion in 'Touring' started by bradders, Nov 27, 2016.

  1. 1/ Ride up to Seaways cafe.
2/ Eat bacon and drink tea, watching the bikes roll in.
3/ Eat carrot cake and drink coffee, watching the bikes roll out.
    4/ Ride home.
At this bastard time of year, its the simple things that I miss. Bastards.

  2. 1) CSS Levels 1 & 2 in May
    2) Not buy anymore expensive bits for bikes before my wedding in June or there won't be one!
    3) After June do as many trackdays as possible and release ban on shiny bits
( Fingers crossed for a Fully Dry Ducati day this year)
    4) Contemplating a ride to Granada in mid summer down to the outlaws...
    5) Actually ride next summer (I think I've done more miles in winter than the whole of summer already and winter hasn't even started!! )...

  3. 1) 1 Trackday
    2) CSS if I enjoy it
    3) More Trackdays (then get a grip if I start to consider bike racing)
    4) Sell my R6 end of year or earlier if I don't like the trackdays...
    5) if I sell the R6 early I might buy a bike for doing some stunt riding... or MX bike.
    5) Take the Ducati out a bit more,
    6) Plenty of miles on the blade, get to a couple more meets on summer evenings..
    7) Big-ish service on the blade, will probably keep it another year if I do it..
    8) Contemplate next bike or not... RSV4 or 1299(S) or maybe a R1 big bang.
Or if I want to do circuit racing with cars again which would be stupid, wake up so maybe have to consider kart racing. Just hope the bike track days work out.
    9) Get good bike photos framed.

  4. Ireland does not do summer.

  5. I'm hoping they might lay one on for a couple of weeks in July...

  6. I was thinking of going myself next year until I watched worlds greatest motorcycle rides on lreland, Henry Cole put me off go! So back to Scotland instead

  7. You may be ok right down the bottom, but don't head north west. Beautiful but wet. Makes it very green.

  8. Slovakiaring and Brno in June with Tracksense. Yeah, and ride my bike a bit more. I covered more mileage on foot in 2016 than on my bike.

  9. I don't want to go just for the biking. I want to go anyway, I'd just rather do it an a bike. If I had enough money and time - and a run of good weather - I'd like to take a good month and weave slowly through Wales, cross over to Ireland, do a full circuit including northern Ireland and then get a ferry across to south western Scotland and ride some of the more obscure routes with lots of island hopping and little ferry crossings befiore doing all the famous routes in the north.
Trouble is, in this country that really means camping at least some of the time as you can't rely on being able to find accommodation every night and that's when the weather starts to become an issue, as I discovered in Wales this year. Three days of solid rain stuck in a cold and clammy tent takes the shine off it somewhat.

  10.
  11. As many trips to EU as possible, before they shut the borders to us :p did about 5 last year :)

  12. However you cross over you start off on the east coast so check out the forecast and plan your route accordingly I guess. I'd like to go to Donegal but I hear what you're saying..I'd like to go to Northern Ireland too and explore the coast while its still relatively unspoilt. I understandthe roads are UK standard but with a fraction of the traffic.

  13. I've just registered for the 2017 European Multistrada Meeting which is from Sunday 4th June to Wed 7th June, which next year is based in Potes, Picos de Europa, Spain. The ferries have started filling up already (for bike bookings), the latest crossing I could get was on Tuesday evening, so I'll have a few extra days to enjoy the roads.

Apart from some blats down to Cornwall to see my folks, that's it for 2017. My wife doesn't want to do another motorcycle tour and my riding mate has a new girlfriend. Not so keen on touring by myself, so open to any opportunities.

  14. They won't. You may need to show a passport one day but no big deal.

  15. Which you do now anyway :)

  16. Providing I get my right hand mended properly....
    • April - 2 weeks off roading in North Vietnam with 5 mates
    • May bank holiday - Something in Wales
    • 1st trip with my son into France/Belgium to introduce him to Euro biking.
    • September - Spain/Portugal
    • Must get plenty of ride outs!
So many trackday fanatics. I don't trust myself enough and I'm worried that I may try to be too competitive and drop the bike or just get addicted.....

  17. I hit the big six oh in February so my missus (bless her) has treated me to a trip to an event I’ve long wanted to get to - the Island Classic Festival in Philip Island at the end of January. She’s even booked us a VIP package!
    Phillip Island Circuit - Home
It’s a match race format with teams from the UK, Australia, NZ, USA and Ireland and top notch riders including Jeremy McWilliams, John McGuiness, James Hillier and for the first time this year Peter Hickman. They are all on early eighties big superbikes such as XR 69 Suzuki’s, Harris Yamaha’s, Katana’s and even the odd TZ750. Not a lot of Ducati interest but if you like a V-twin there is the fabulous 1600cc Irving Vincent that is quicker than some of the big Jap 4’s.
The Brit’s have kicked the Aussie’s butt for the last two years so hopefully they will again.

After the festival we’re going to drive up the coast from Melbourne into the Blue Mountains where I hope to get to the Mt. Panorama circuit at Bathurst and on to Sydney from where we fly home. It’ll be lovely to escape the depths of winter for a few weeks too. Can’t wait.

Hopefully when I get back there won’t be too many weeks to wait before the weather picks up and I can get out on the bikes again. Only problem is using so much of my annual leave so early in the year means I’ll struggle for time off for more trips so will probably have to satisfy myself with hooning around locally, unless I can squeeze in a few days for the Classic TT.

  18. Going goa for 3 months on 3 jan expect ill head south to kerala at some point most likely on an enfield.

Isle of man is dependant on what i decide to do when i get back from goa. Ferrys booked and paid for just in case. Still looking at doing a tour of the states on a bonnie after the winters passed though.
Would love to get out to as many euro gps as i can but again all dependant on the above. Catalan gp was the aim after valencia.

  19. That sounds like a good trip, not done either of those circuits, or used Tracksense before, you will have to let us all know how it went. I may consider doing that trip in 2018 if they run it again, have a good time Mr Hinge.

How about Poland @MatiasH ? Helsinki to Warsaw is only about 1,000 Km, and no need to pass through Belarus.
