899 What's The Best Thing About Your 899

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Teztec, May 5, 2014.

  1. yeahbutnobutyeah...................what about in the "real world"? ;)

  2. Lol, don't worry about that real world boll.... take it from me, always go for the best you can afford. That way theres no ifs and buts.

  3. Not always fella, I bought the 899 on want, not affordability. If I'd have wanted the 1199 then I'd have bought one.
I'll never exploit the power so bought the bike that suited me. Price was not even in the equation.

  4. Exactly - I've had the 180/190bhp machines and whilst they are great in a "cock waving competition" I actually had more fun from my 848 Evo Corse. In fact I would say that, so far, it's been the best bike I've ever owned. And I think the 899 is going to eclipse it :)

  5. I'm going have to try 1199
For me money does come into it ,I have seen a pre reg 2 miles on the clock for 14k
So that is just within my budget .
But I'm not just going to go out and buy a 1199 because it as more power and a colour dash.
It's going to be what I Percieve as the best road bike for me.
    Oh and running cost....
What are you guys getting out of a rear sports tyre ?
I'm running Metz M5 on my k13 there done by 3500miles,but will fit Z8 on next.
I can't afford to be going through four sets of tyres a year

  6. Suspect you are looking at a non ABS spec at that price. Go for the 1199 ABS at the very least...... you need the best brakes, believe me.

  7. Yes I think it the bog standard model no ABS.
It will be the only way I could jump on a 1199
Without selling the K,and that's going no where ,I need it for 2 up work and tours
Originally I was going to sell it and buy an old VFR,but I just can't let it go:Arghh:

  8. This 899 v 1199 debate is really interesting, I haven't ridden either yet but will ride them back to back soon. I want to keep my 848 evo as a track bike and then run a panigle on the road (i'll have to mortgage my soul but who cares when it's for Ducatis) do I buy the 899 as it'll be a great replacement track bike in a year or 2 or do I just get the 1199 as I've already got the smaller more agile bike. I quite like the idea of it scaring me ! However I'm not so sure the 1199 will be as good a track bike ever than the 848 in a way.

nice dilemma to have (well if I sell my car that is) but you'd be amazed how worried I am and want to make the right choice !

  9. The 1199 is a tad lighter than the 899, although it is has a slightly longer wheel base. I find they're pretty similar when it comes to agility.... it's the power-on exit that I find a little intimidating from the bigger bike that tames my riding somewhat on the road. Haven't taken either of them on a track yet.... however, POWER is everything then....1199 all the way, I would have thought. Mind you..... you need to able to exploit the extra power, not sure my nads are big enough... lol.

  10. And I suppose there is the option to lean on the TC there then ;-) At some point I'd switch the bikes around and run the 848 back on the road and put the Panigale on the track.......

Can't wait to have a ride on both and make a decision.

  16. Going to book demo ride next weekend on the 1199 .
On call this week so it's going have to wait.
End of the day it's a win,win decision

  17. Brakes are monster.... that's my point.

  18. Oh I'm all a quandary now
Just been in and booked a demo ride for next Saturday on both bikes back to back

    Because it's aPCP purchase
    No deals on the 899
they can't keep up with demand...

Now 1199 Abs £1000 more deposit ,same monthly payments ,balloon at the back £2000 more.
That wouldn't be a deal breaker for me,and there could be a deal to be had on venture shield or crash bungs it seems.
I'm more confused now then I was when I first considered buying the 899

  19. Back to back, good idea. Should be good weather for a test ride too. Enjoy.

  20. Just back from Moto Rapido
I think for me the 899 the better road bike
Not sure my licence could survive the 1199 :)
