What's This Lever All About ?

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Tobytyke, Jan 28, 2020.

  1. I think I read recently that there are two levers on the top racebikes one of which is for launch control but that may have been on the clutch side or I could be talking complete bollox!

  2. Thumb brake

  3. He must be very dexterous with his fingers on his throttle hand :bucktooth:

  4. It activates the Vulva valve

  5. decompression ie if the engine stalls or cuts out after a fall over, it gives the poxy little starter and battery the opportunity to get the motor to turn with minimal compression once turning release and engine should fire...
if it is that its a bit old school surely they could achieve the same by retarding the ignition on start up..

  6. Don’t the race bikes have decompression cams like the road bikes

  7. Looks like a mechanical ermergency Kill switch.

  8. It’s extra Hp during qualification aka as “partymode” or it could be “DRS” for the wings....

  9. The part number on it (455.1 051.1A) is almost the same as the Hypermotard rear brake master cylinder (455.1 051.1B).

Logic would have it (or at least my logic) that it is possibly a thumb operated rear brake lever.

  10. Relevance to this topic ? ..... very slight
but watch from around 45 seconds in ......

    " What's that switch over there for ? "

BTW - there's a bit of further advice for motorists ....
" Them locks are easy "

    :)

  11. Ejector seat simples

  12. Makes sense to be some sort of thumb brake, it can only be used when off the throttle, he'd never get a thumb to it on full throttle.

  13. Looks like rpm limiter used in pit lane. Here is another version.

On left is thumb operated rear brake used in turns to help with less loading on the front wheel using rear brake and then in turn to drift the rear wheel to get better turning radius.

  14. That one is a fixed bracket - not a cable like the other one, possibly a camera mount?

  15. Operating the lever drops a pin in the gear box allowing the rider to engage neutral. Andy

  16. Heater control

  17. I get that with the GP bike but I'm surprised the SBK has it thought the gearbox was more akin to the road bike, didn't see one on the MR bike :bucktooth:

  18. I am sure that the lever is to select 1st gear then all gears are seamless, Moto gp and world super bikes using same style of gear pattern, seamlessly 1st to 6th up and down the gear box. not allowed in BSB.

  19. Look closely Exi, it’s hinged at the bottom, you can push the bottom part backwards thus, perhaps, engaging pit lane limiter and then press the ‘off’ button at the top to deactivate it.

  20. Ah, it has a Hydraulic connection now I've zoomed in :eyes:
