What's you body position?

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by t3scn, Jul 24, 2013.

  1. I was waiting for that

  2. Funnily enough so was I

  3. Its easier to move your body from one side of the bike to the other when on your toes.

  4. Also helps if you're not a lard arse too :upyeah:

  5. And stops you dragging boots on roundabouts

  6. It changes depending on the situation, The top pic isn't on the balls of the feet its more towards the instep. Balls of the feet for me cornering cos you need some input through the peg that you can't get if you are right on your toes, but you can slide your inside foot back to stop it digging in when the peg is near the road.
On a track your position is changing all the time, not just feet but your whole body. There isn't one foot position that does for everything so don't get too hung up on what an instructor says, it's just his interpretation of it. It's more important to be comfortable and not even thinking about it and concentrating on getting the line right, turn in and apexes and braking markers sorted. Get that sorted and body position becomes sort of intuitive unless you are trying too hard, something I've seen plenty when instructing.

  7. Still all bollox! Every rider is different. Look at all the different styles in Moto GP or WSB... It also depends on what bike you ride. I admit that I use the ballsofthe feet mostly on the track, but think this investigation is over the top...

  8. Agreed. I personally ride on my toes/ball of foot generally, but only as that's what's comfy.

But have a look at MotoGP, you get the inside foot right up on the toes to get clearance, but the outside foot just wants to be planted firmly, whatever position. And plenty of the best racers out there are on the arch of their foot on the outside peg, often using rear brake or changing upgears whilst still cranked over......

Have a look at Stoner on the Ducati, outside foot on the rear brake, peg in the arch of his foot, inside foot on tippy toes, bike virtually sideways......

  9. From my last track-day experience I found that I need to learn to be on my toes on the inside of the corner otherwise if i was on the balls of my feet my toes would drag on the tarmac. Caught me out a few times when it 1st happened, thought I was coming off lol.
I have to say though I was made up that I made use of the toe sliders on my boots. Just need to learn to get off the bike more now to get my knee down and increase corner speed.
