959 Wheels How Heavy!

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Kevster84, Apr 15, 2017.

  1. are the dymags lighter than the oz version or is there not that much in it

  2. The 1st mod I did when I bought the 899 was wheels. I put OZ Piega 5 spokes on. Had seen them on a pal's 959 and they looked great. Just pushing the 899 with standard wheels made them feel like they had a 'ball & chain' attached.

  3. I don't think there's much difference. The Dymags had a much faster delivery time and the cost wasn't much different

  4. I weighed mine when I swapped to bst's and the weight saving was 9.4 kg

  5. Wheels are my next mod. Probably the last thing I will change on the bike now

  6. Marchesini downside was the almost 4 month delivery time....

Another thing i would seriously research is getting some secondhanders and depending on the state get them repainted/coated. Youve got a 959 which means a double sided swing arm so youre open to more options plus (and this is my theory) - i believe that the majority of wheels are cast basically the same way. The manufacturer just adds a collar to the wheel to make it fit the bike. I was originally looking for a second hand set of m7r's to go on mine and stopped short as i couldnt find any information or anyone that had successfully grafted them to my zed so played it safe....low and behold this morning (yes, this morning) i come across a lad thats fitted them!! his came from an r1 with a spacer he had made so i could have done it, got the wheels for about 400 quid cheaper and then spent that 400 on discs and having spacers made and more to the point have and even lighter set of wheels!. Heres the vid i did for the lads on the z forum (youll see what i mean about the collars)...pardon my bristolian accent but im originally a geordie...

  8. Been tempted by wheels for a few years now. Been keeping a look out for 2nd hand ones for my 899

  9. Kevster,

Overall weight saving from standard wheels to Oz Piega is 4.82Kg - 3.29Kg on the rear alone!

Only 0.58Kg saving on the front but nearly a Kg different on the sprocket and carrier total weight, saving is immediately apparent when fitted:)

  10. Some nice 1098 ones in the for sale section:)

  11. The GASS wheels are available now and meant to be even lighter but they're a fair bit more.

I wish I bought the last set of BSTs before the price increase now

  16. Thats where I bought mine from.... Good service in that they took an age to get (they weren't in stock) but I got a free t-shirt for my wait.... He did keep me upto date with the delivery time (and how it kept changing!)
