Which 1080 onboard camera?

  1. Nice thanks for that. I hope that it is 1600 in true form. I might true one of these for a laff. What does Capacity: 3.7V 1600mAh 3.885Wh mean?

  2. That must be a typo from the standard 1050mAh battery, photo shows expected 5.9Wh, but many people say these batteries are no better then standard and quickly lose capacity. Might be worth a punt at those prices though, I have also seen them in packs of 2 and including a double charger.
I just ordered a small piece of plastic from the US and the postage alone was £10, can't imagine how they do postage and packaging for free from HK.

  3. For the cost of a pint it doesn't really matter, mine last 2hr 21 mins last night.

  4. 2h 21m! I have ordered one

  5. Sorry I lied  it was 2hr 17m made up of 7x 17m ??sec and 1 x about 9 mins Mines white version and the wifi was on

  6. That is still good especially with the WiFi on. I think there is generally a 15-20% reduction in battery life with the WiFi in app mode or 10% with it in remote mode.

  7. So on the run back, it I got 2 hours on a full battery 1080. The temp was approx 12 degrees C, so that is not bad at really. I'll run a test tomorrow with the GPRO HD 3 standard with the new battery for a comparison.

  8. Just finished another test to be sure.

110min 29 sec 1080 30fps wifi on. was fully charged up last night, seemed t have lost 10 mins but I guess it could have lost a little bit since its charge 24 hrs ago.

Will try the one that it came with to see the diffrence

  9. Might have to look at one of these batteries as that sounds good.

Is the 3+ noticeably better than a 3? I quite fancy upgrading my Hero 3 Silver to either a Hero 3 Black or a Hero 3+ Black... but there's about £100 or more between them and I really don't need to do this. Maybe if I flogged the Silver camera only I could put that towards a Hero 3 Black... Hmmmmmm.

  10. Don't forget that Black eats batteries

  11. I have tried all the main cameras (GoPro/Drift Ghost/Contour) and quite a few of the others, I assure you the GoPro Black has the best video quality of them all. However, I would say that many other aspects of a GoPro suck, something like the Drift Ghost is superior in pretty much every other respect (battery life, mounting, aerodynamic shape, display...)

As regards the 3+ vs 3, I can not really see any difference in video quality between them but the H3+BE has a few tricks such as ultra wide. One of my main problems with the H3BE is battery life. Tests in my kitchen laboratory using 1080/30 wide, WiFi off (which apparently is the most efficient mode for the Black editions) show
    • the H3BE runs for 1h 35m,
    • the H3+BE runs for 2h 06m.
That is nearly 30 minutes longer. The 3+ is supplied with a larger capacity 1180mAh battery (H3 is 1050mAh), both batteries have the same dimensions so the 1180mAh battery can be got as an as an accessory and used in the 3 but it will only give an extra 10 minutes of run time because apparently 20 minutes of the extra 30 is due to the H3+BE drawing less power than a H3BE.
So for my requirements, the H3+BE is much better than the H3BE but if you shoot in 10 minute segments then you may not care about the better battery life.

I tried the 1600mAh replacement battery from eBay, it was CHEAP £4 including delivery from HK, but I don't think it is 1600mAh, I estimated about 850mAh from my test with the H3BE.

  12. Cheers, that's useful stuff.

I'm gonna stick with my 3 Silver for the foreseeable future I reckon. If I'd known when I bought it how much I'd use it though I'd have gone for the Black.

  13. A couple of weeks after I bought my 3 White play.com had blacks on for £229

  14. Contour HD for me, although i sold mine after my 848Evo went.

Bought the "Roll bar" attachment and bolted it to the fork leg with some dense rubber to avoid damaging the forks.

Was amazed at how vibration-free the footage was.
