Which 1080 onboard camera?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by timberwolf, Apr 4, 2013.

  1. Picture. Cant say I have ever seen clearer either when on tv, gadget show use them, or via you tube. Don't own one btw, too expensive for me and don't like how they are fitted. I'd be drift all the way...although I like the look of that sony above

  2. Even this link doesn't tell me much as the reviewer seems to think the GoPro has the best picture here but to me would choose the Sony based on his footage.

    The Best Action Camera

  3. Get the drift. :upyeah:

  4. im out on mine tomoz with a sony as15. will upload my shit to youtube and post back here...

  5. It seems Drift have a deal with some BSB riders this year.

  6. I set up my mate's Hero 3 last night on the bike. Ended up sticking it with a curved adhesive mount just in front of the right hand mirror where the fairing stay helps to give some stiffness. I tested it in the garage and it worked fine but the weather had turned nasty and it was getting dark. I've left it so I can just go out, fix the camera to the mount and head straight out so I'll hopefully get at least a quick road test on Monday.

Have pretty much decided now that I'll get a Hero 3 but I'll road test this one first anyway.

  7. It looks like they've shot that at 24fps, instead of at 30fps (a setting you can choose amongst several). I've found that 30fps on a bike works much better.

  8. Yip, those clips look strange to me too. Not so good if they are using them to market the camera surely? I've seen other Drift clips look much better than that though.

One thing I noticed on my mate's GoPro 3 is that the 720 resolution only lets you use the wide angle and it looks odd compared to the medium angle. If you select 1080 it lets you use narrow, medium or wide... weird.

Anyway. Longer story short... I just ordered a Hero 3 on eBay, £199.99 delivered. A 32GB card and a grab bag of mounts...

  9. Is that a silver or a white Andy? GoPro's are so bloody confusing. Is there a difference between white and silver apart from the obvious?

  10. A Silver. The White is bum basic and you get nothing included with a White. A Silver is a bit better and has some mounts included. Or that's how I read it.

Check out the gopro website, it shows them side by side. I decided early on that if I was going gopro it had to be a Silver though.

  11. Im sorry that Alex Lowes Drift video looks crap

  12. Its the contrast. Not been set for cloudy day imo. So cant compensate and looks dark

  13. That's the thing with these, they work well in some light and not so well in other lights it seems.

Watching the wee comparison clips on Gizmodo, where the guy had 4 different makes of cameras on at the same time, some look very bright and others look like it's at dusk. Quite noticeable when you see them side by side like that.

I'm stupidly excited about my GoPro arriving. Trust me to order on a Friday to maximise waiting time.

  14. Your going to love it . I cant stop buying bits to go with mine. Just bought the screen bacpac which is very good . Came from japan so took a while but it was a good £60 cheaper . You got to love them Asians wrote it down as present under $15 .

  15. I reckon you might be right. My mate (who I borrowed one from above) has a wee case full of stuff. Microphone, mounts, cases, cables etc. and he's only had his a month or two.

I think all I'll need other than the grab bag of mounts is a roll bar mount to attach to the fork leg and I fancy one of the micover things for the skeleton backdoor. It's a sort of hairy cover that lets you use the vented back door for better sound but stops the wind noise ruining the quality. I can only find one place selling them though and it's in the US.

I can totally see how this gets addictive though! I just hope I can use it and avoid getting myself into bother with it too!

  16. I've never really found a workable set up yet for my bike..... The last set up was a bullet cam connected to a video camera under the site, with a remote start/stop button on the near side switch gear... this worked ok - except the combination of 40 degrees heat in italy + plus 50mm termis and traffics fried the camera last time we were there - and havent got round to sourcing a replacement....

Can I ask you all - with all of the various systems mentioned - go pro, drift and the sony - can you switch them on/off whilst actually riding ? can any one post a pic of the remote controls...

  17. Google is your friend. I have one and they work well theres only one button to press and on a lanyard around your neck you can turn it off and on easily . The battery life is shortened whilst its connected to the fob though. I have an extended battery pack for mine.https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=g...et-Acc-Cameras%2Fgoprowifiremote.html;600;600

These things are very small aswel The camera in its protective case is only abou 75mm by 60mm the fob is about 50 mm x 20mm x6mm . On the gopro anyway.

  18. Drift yes as it has a remote fob, dont know about the others

  19. Been looking into this today, after thinking about just a cheap setup a DVR connected to a bullet cam had a look at some reviews on youtube of different kit setups.
You know what its like on that thing, start looking at bikes end up watching cats...

Anyway got onto watching a few of the Drift HD reviews and was sold, decent image quality, a few of the vlogs I watched I could hear the person speak fine, its pretty compact and the helmet mount looks sturdy enough. The remote on/off is a bonus really.

Think the smart thing to do will be to save up a bit and get a second hand one off ebay, you get what you pay for.
