Which Desmosedici?

Discussion in 'D16 Desmosedici RR' started by Dave, Sep 9, 2012.

  1. Have you put all your bikes with them? May be worth it if not, 'cos I'm paying about that for the D16,998R and Diavel Carbon all on one Ducati insurance policy.

  2. Certainly less than some others are paying but then I'm an old fart living in the countryside

I am investigating a multi-bike quote with them Steve - may be able to save money that way.

  3. They do a tail unit for a D16 with the GP7 exhaust fitted as well as the correct belly pan

  4. Sweet - I'll take a look. Cheers

  5. Just don't go head-butting Saabs on this one!

  6. LOL - I think it was a Renault wasn't it?

Funnily enough I was thinking that if I manage to get the bike delivered in time for the weekend then I may pop into the Riders Ducati Weekend event on Saturday - then I thought, hang-on a mo, what happened last time I rode-up to Riders in Bristol ... and is the Saturday morning Bristol traffic really somewhere I want to take the bike for its first run?

    P'raps not.

  7. Skip Bristol and go to Bridgewater instead

  8. Yeah but Bridgwater is only about 5 miles from me ...

By the way ... received my new helmet through the post today. Lovely

  9. Mine's back with Arai getting serviced at the moment. Take it that it matched the way you hoped it would

  10. First sight of my new bike ...

Just seen this picture on Ducati Glasgow's FB page - a picture of my bike posing with Debbie Evans (the stunt rider on the 996 in The Matrix). I'm guessing that the bloke is Martin Rees, the MD.

Doesn't she look gorgeous (my bike that is!)

  11. Yep, that's Martin alright.

  12. I've told Ducati Glasgow via FaceBook to make sure he doesn't get his mucky paw prints on the tail unit LOL! ;)

  13. Didn't recognise him without his kilt on ...

  14. Insurance sorted ...

    Desmosedici
    Ducati 996SPS
    Ducati ST4s
    KTM 990 SuperDuke
    Suzuki RGV250SP VJ23 (Lucky Strike)
    Suzuki RGV250SP VJ23
    Yamaha TTR250

Multibike policy with Ducati Insurance for £2,247

The Desmosedici was going to be £1,573 on its own so the additional 6 bikes have cost £674. This is a good £300 or so cheaper than I was paying for them with eBike - and I am due about £200 refund from eBike on cancelling my policy with them part way through the year - so that sweetens the pill a little

  15. Errr your missing a monster in that line up Dave hmmm

  16. Jeez, how do you get any work done with that lot to ride round on? Or do you play lucky dip with the keys to find out what you're going to ride?

  17. LOL!

Donna's 620 Monster is going to go on a different policy, and my DD bike doesn't need insurance

  18. Truth is they don't get ridden enough really. I'm seriously thinking about downsizing the stable.

The TTR250 gets used in the winter for green-laning and pottering around. I will hang-on to that.
The ST4s gets used occasionally for work in the spring/summer - long distances when I have to carry luggage for hotel stays and can't do it by train.
The SuperDuke gets used most - overall it is the easiest and most fun to use.
However, I'm thinking about swapping the ST4s and the SuperDuke in for something that could do the job of both - maybe a Multistrada or a KTM Adventure or SMT. Trouble is I love the engine in the ST4s much more than the modern Ducati engines and I am worried that nothing else will be as much damn FUN as the SuperDuke.

One of the RGVs doesn't run at the moment. The idea was for it to be turned into a track bike or a donor for the other.
The Lucky Strike RGV and the SPS are used on special occasions. I do worry about whether either will get ridden at all once I have the D16RR. Trouble is I love both of them and they are all but irreplaceable - I'm not sure I can bring myself to sell them. Maybe I'll just face-facts and properly moth-ball them for a few years.

As you can see I am seriously confused. I think I might start a separate thread on this to see if peeps here can help me make-up my mind what to do.

  19. I'm sure there's a few folk on here, me included, who would happily help you out with riding the bikes! Just so they don't seize up through lack of use of course!
