Difference between a base 999 and a 999S is pretty significant in the HP department, and also in the suspension department ,the S has full Ohlins ,later base 999 (red frame) 05' onwards has the same deep sump motor as the earlier 999S...999R is a different beast altogether, confused? TBH I agree with most of what is written in Pre posts, the 999/S is probably what best fits your needs for £5K,but they are all good and much more comfortable (and better looking IMO) than the 916/996/998 series....go for it ! Prices are on the up and what you can now buy for £5 grand will cost a fair bit more in a few months time me thinks.
