Which Ducati?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by JoshLJ, Aug 13, 2013.

  1. Booked in for a test ride on Saturday with a white 848. However, it is a 2009 and have heard they made a few revisions to the 2010 model. The Ducati "salesman" said that it's hardly noticeable apart from the brakes being more progressive on the 2009 so depends on personal style and anyone probably wouldn't notice the difference in power.

Any thoughts? To be quite honest I couldn't care less that it's got only a few horses less but want to make sure there are no known problems that I can avoid before purchasing it?

  2. If its a 09 it'll be the pre-Evo model. Make sure its had to rad done, or get a good warranty in it as they're £600. No real issues. If its the same one that I saw on autotrader price looks a bit high with nearly 10k miles.

  3. Correct! I have already told them there is a 2010 model with just over 3k on the clock and costs £400 less from a dealer so I will definitely be trying to negotiate. It's just convenience for me as it's just down the road.

  4. 7.5k should get a decent 749R I guess?

  5. Hmmmm......I assume you are looking at the 09 848 @ £7500? That money should at least buy an 08 1098/1098s with aftermarket cans etc. Paid less than that for my 08 1098 with £850 worth of cans on it and 7k miles from a main dealer with a full belt service thrown in. I don't have any 848 issues, that's your choice but what I will say is the 1098's seem to be a better bang for the buck and have the brembo brake upgrade even on the standard non ohlins jobby. If you are worried about it being too powerful, just don't rev it as hard lol! Coming from a jap litre bike, like myself, I think you will want at least the 1098 for a similar power output, but saying that, in the real world its still difficult for me to shake off my mate on his 749!

  6. And, to add to that last bit, my mate once went around the outside of me at donnington on his KR1s (250cc 2 stroke), the complete bastard.

  7. Get an Evo, it is worth the difference.

  8. Cheers for that! That's the only thing that has worried me up until now. However... I havejust had three different people, one being a very good bike mechanic tell me that the cost of servicing a Ducati is ridiculous and it costs £2k every 2 years for a major service and belt change? If this is right then I will not be buying anything that begins with a Ducat as I didn't realise that!

    Is this true?

  9. That is very untrue.

PS he cant be a very good bike mechanic lol. My last belt change and shims cost me just shy of £300, I did oil and filters myself

I guess he said it will break down and be riddled with electrical faults

  10. Its bollox, unless bike is a dog to start or you're racing it then no need for huge service costs

  11. My 916 has been reliable. My service charges no different than any other really. Sure the belt change service costs a bit more bit its not excessive. £2k is absolute bollox. I had a bottom end rebuild for less than that on my 916 as pre-emptive for that thingy on the crank. (lol forgot what its called) As well as a full service and belt change at same time.

The 'very good bike mechanic' is obviously good at mechanics but shite at costs.

  12. I had to read that a couple of times, really. Is he a ducati technician, qualified ducati technician ?

Its that type of misguided foolish comment by some ppl that misrepresent Ducati's (or any other bike brand for that matter) that turns ppl off buying what they want.

Thats a stooopind fcukin statement to make by him
