Agreed and covered earlier in the thread, I was referring specifically to the whole fuel map, Ie running a lean map etc, not ignition advance and retard. Besides this is air temp and gear dependant let alone fuel dependant . Guess the general consensus is people don't bother, maybe if we had 100 Octane? I thought some people were selling it
I've never seen it at a pump, but I've seen octane boosters Not used then myself, but seen them in track cars
Yeah, sounds like a great way to get yourself up sh*t creek. I have a twin charged (always think it sounds much more impressive than it is) Golf GT and I imagine if I tried to run an octane booster it would have a meltdown (literally). I guess what's missing from this thread though is the difference between different 95octane fuels from supermarkets etc. I know when I had the 848 because of its plastic tank there were loads of threads about them swelling up because of loads of ethanol (I think) in certain fuels, perhaps a point for discussion... You should think a Shell 95 pump would be good quality fuel but paying 5p a litre less for it at tesco u probably wouldn't be able to be as fussy
Do Ducatis have knock sensors? I used to get 100 octane aviation fuel and use that in my cars, but never neat as they would run like a pig, I had to mix lower octane in with it. Because the higher octane burns at a different speed then the maximum point of ignition (maximum pressure of combustion) is not at the optimum crank angle and power will be lost.
I fill depending on my riding style for the day , if taking it steady 95 if looneying then 98 , Saying that never used 95
I am fairly sure one the bike UK magazines ( Fast Bikes i think) did a test on V Power recently and found no noticeable performance benefits in using it. I think the test was actually arranged by Shell too.

I tend to use 95 when I'm riding the bike more but when winter comes and there's less chance put 98 in.
Mine gets anything other than Supermarket fuel. So BP, Shell, Esso etc. Sometimes put super in, but honestly you won't notice the difference. 9 times out of 10 it gets shell because it's my most local. Fuel it, ride it.
