Which Helmet For A Multistrada?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Oly, Nov 2, 2018.

  1. I just purchased a 2018 Multistrada Pikes Peak where I'm also looking for a new helmet. Having sold my Arai Corsair being five years old, I'm left an AGV K5s. I'm looking for an all Carbon Fiber where my choices are either the AGV AX9 MONO or the new X-903 Ultra Carbon by X-Lite. Both offer sun protection. The X-Lite has an internal sun visor whereas the AGV has a peak. The Peak is fashionable of late but I'm concerned with how it may catch in the wind at speed. Would love to read about that from those that have them.

  3. My experience with Peaked lids is that different lids react differently on different bikes with different riders...not much help I know,
I ridden almsot exclusively in a peaked lid of some form for the last 15 years, on everything from Enduro bikes, Supermoto's my GS Adv and now the Multi.
I was originally determined NOT to go down the Euan and Charlie route of wearing a Tour X on the Adv but a quirk of aerodynamics meant that I found the Road lid very uncomfortable at speed with it feeling like someone had hold of my head and was pulling it around !
I then tried one of my MX lids as an experiment and it was rock steady, I can only assume some airflow off the barn door screen hit the peak and deflected rather than cause buffeting.
as a counterpoint to that, a riding buddy of mine had the opposite effect and found a peaked lid very uncomfortable...he is about 6 inch shorter than me
I've only ridden the Multi in my E1 and again because of the way the airflows over the front of the bike the peak doesnt cause me any issues at all, no problems with shoulder checks even at Autobahn speeds, but then the E1 is a C3 I believe with a fancy peak added
Ive yet to try the Multi with a road lid but my opinion is that there is no right or wrong only what you are comfortable with
