1200 Which Oil Do You Use

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by michel couque, Jul 7, 2015.

  1. I have a wet clutch.

  2. So which are the best oils ?

  3. Too much information? :D

  4. Mobil 1 comes up again and again in discussions about the best oil, I think that may be what's going in my (dry clutch) motor next time ...

  5. Yes, the fact that Ducati recommend Shell probably has less to do with excellence than with a mutually beneficial deal.

  6. The manufacturer of the oil is not important, the correct or better specification is. As for which is best, there is no best, else that manufacturer would have a monopoly.

  7. my oil turned up this morning 16.95+vat 4lts 10/40 fully synthetic 4t mtorcycle oil exceeds JASO MA2.

  8. yip. bit of a quandary as i am always banging on about oils to my customers. chatting to the guy that sold me it who i rate as way more knowledgeable than myself when it comes to bikes recons it will be more than good enough what with it being colder up here. mine rarely if ever rise above 70 odd deg c. even when motoring on.

  9. JMC?

  10. H.M.P highland motor parts.

  11. Which brand?

  12. millers ZFS 10W40. bearing i mind i get a bit of trade discount. when i buy motor oil for the workshop it's usually coma, i get millers occasionally and it's always cheaper, but i am as guilty as the next man for assuming dearer is better.

  13. I've always changed oil/filter around every 2.5K, although I'm getting more inclined towards replacing the oil just before I put the Summer bikes to bed for Winter, even if that means 5K... It's still less than the accepted service interval.
I must confess that the API ratings don't half change quickly. I think we're up to API SN now, it's incredible what the oil is capable of now:Jawdrop:

I suppose that's why some cars have 30K+ oil service intervals now.
To think I ran my first motorbikes on whatever 2-stroke the petrol station had available:Nailbiting:

  14. Motul is the oil!

  15. Mobile 1 4T full synthetic for motorcycles 10w-40 in Canada.

  16. Never take any advice from someone who is selling something. Their advice will be clouded by their profit margins. Any old brand of the same spec oil will never be more than 0.5% different to any other brand of that spec.

  17. So I pick up my bike from its 15000 mile service, the dealer has again spoken to Ducati about my oil consumption ,up till now Ducati are saying its within tolerance, apparently the dealer now needs to discuss the situation following his latest chat with them, Good or bad I don't know? A bit like walking the gangplank, but from where I stand the oil consumption is abnormal. Not one of you guys MTS use any oil at all, that seems to be the norm to me.

  18. I read in MCN a couple of weeks ago about a Fireblade using silly amounts of oil. Answer came back as something like, 'give it some, helps to bed the bike's piston rings in'... It's food for thought, although officer Dibble might not be convinced:Angelic:

  19. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1437155813.548246.jpg i use this because I just had the Desmo service done and that's what Ian Murrays Edinburgh put in. The technician told me to make sure you keep to the velocity because of the start up. Since the service I have done 1650 miles and put 550mils of oil in. I ask the tech as I was getting my recall done and he said that was fine.

  20. I would hope at 15000 miles the bike is now run in!.looks like the engine is starting to wear out!!
