Who was it advertising a Sport Classic wanted for £5k?

Discussion in 'Sport Classic' started by wroughtironron, Feb 10, 2013.

  1. It was a lovely bike to look at,and listen to-but the most uncomfortable bike I have ever ridden. It seems I should have kept it a bit longer and made a massive profit on it and sold it to the garage above?

  2. Yep I bought it!
I offered them £3695 and a box of Jacobs Cream Crackers and they snapped it up!

Well I'm a bit of an old cynic... so..

It could be that some wealthy type saw it over the last 2 days and snapped it up but there could be other reasons why it's not for sale so quickly...and the salesman had to pull it and declare it sold just to save face...

    ...see! I'm too cynical.

  3. I've seen a couple last summer going for about £5500 so he may find one... that being said since then they seem to fetch higher prices. Not so good to be a buyer but surely great times for sellers

  4. True, true - 'course I'm on the other side of the fence now (compared to last month)

  5. Wonder how many long term SC owners might be tempted to sell if someone offered in the region of £10k for their bike?

Would they spend all of the money on another bike (that would probably depreciate compared to the SC)? Or would they bank some of the money?

  6. Good point!

  7. Hi Triang
I,m almost sure that the bike in Preston was mine, the one i told you i was thinking of selling.
Glad you got sorted with yours.

  8. Was it? Wow! I was going to call you as a mate, on seeing mine, got tempted to buy one too...

So maybe that 10k was for real - I hope you got what you wanted out of it anyway...

  9. Been watching it since last weekend too, been fancying one for a while but its already more money than I'm really wanting to spend, bet it goes for best part of £10k

  10. Folks, I'm new to the forum and I'm on the market for a sport classic, if anyone can give me the heads up on any dealers or adverts where a bike is for sale etc would be much appreciated

  11. Which model are you looking for?

  12. Not a GT

Biposto or maybe an S model, prefer low miles if possible

  13. This one on Ebay is the only one I have seen recently ... apart for Paul Smart minters for 10k... It's in Portugal but that shouldn't be a huge problem...Ducati Sport Classic 1000 S | eBay

  14. Hi Triang, yes I've seen that one thanks, i'm no rush, just hope there will be more coming up soon for sale

  15. I'm thinking of selling my Sport Classic 1000, it's a monoposto in yellow, I've done less than 3000 miles on it and it's in mint condition. I've just had it serviced including cambelts and it has Termignonis fitted and a new rear tyre. I just don't ride it enough so if a good offer came along I would consider it

  16. PaulR I have Pm'd you

  17. Hmmm, this finished yesterday at a bid price of £9,100, unbelievably this did not meet the sellers reserve which strikes me as a bit greedy. Any UK buyer would have to cover the cost of shipping and headlight conversion as well as registration in the UK and any service needs this bike may have. I would direct anyone who was bidding on this to look at a Paul Smart thats on there , its been on for a while and is a private seller who may be open to offers.

  18. I think a Classic was sold recently on ebay for about £9500.Whether this was a genuine sale or a ramped up price I do not know.
Having owned a Classic S I wouldn't pay that sort of money.Yes it was an attractive bike, and the most uncomfortable bikeI have ever ridden,as the road testers also pointed out.For that sort of money there are plenty of more desirable bikes out there.
However each to their own and if you like that bike all well and good.
