I think we should keep a difference between race bike and track bike, as the possible maintenance backlog may vary between the 2 dramatically. friends of mine have also picked up ex race bikes and had a multitude of issues, overheating etc, and also resulting in a stock engine swap and sold the motor on as parts, but even so it worked out relatively cheap due to the build list on the bike (suspension wheels etc), so you need to have a budget for some work regardless i think
