Why Don't We All Have Bike Tracs

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by ymfb, May 9, 2014.

  1. get a smart phone hide it on the bike and use that to track it ;)

  2. Mine was at some stage Datatagged.....

...Panels and mirrors still have the markers and the Datatag hologram sticker is clearly visible..........

........whether anything is left in the way of the 'chips' I haven't got a clue...........

  3. Hide a smartphone?...........On a Ducati?

That's like asking where should the tax be fixed......;)

  4. Comparethemarket.com and thebikeinsurer don't offer biketrac as one of their options on the fitted security parts of the quote form. I know that you can just call the insurer to get a better deal but I'm not calling them all to find out if it is worth fitting it or not!

  5. bennets do

  6. Have any of you lost a bike to a scum bag?

  7. You can change the voltage level at which it will alert you. Personally I'd like a bit of warning. No point getting a text to tell you it's so low it won't start if you're just about to go for a ride.

I like biketrac. Great for peace of mind more than anything but also nice to see where you've been with the snail trail.... With the speed switched off of course.

  8. I was persuaded to get the tracker instead of an alarm, and I can see the advantages now. An alarm only works for the length of time it takes for someone to toss your bike into a van and if they're scummy enough to do that, then they're hard-faced enough to brazen out a sounding alarm. The Bike Trac sends me a text if the bike moves for 20s so if I'm out of earshot, I know that something's gone on. I like the snail-trail thing and also the bike down feature, but don't start the bike on its side stand or your family get the death text every time you go around a long right hand bend. Ooops. Road Angel are working on firmware to fix this, so it's deactivated in the meantime.
Also, Bike Trac boast a 100% recovery rate so unless they immediately start trashing your bike, means that it comes home well.

  9. Yep has a Zx7R stolen from outside my girlfriends house. The way I felt that Sunday morning as I went looking for it is the reason my Ducati has a tracker

  16. I priced one up as an option when I got my bike. It was £375 fitted with £99 a year subscription thereafter I seem to remember... I got an insurance quote with it on and it was only £30-50 less per year. In terms of cost, they don't make sense. In terms of getting a nicked bike back and maybe getting hold of the people who took it, maybe they do. But until the cost is more attractive they won't catch on with the masses, it's just how it is. I can't help thinking the professionals will work them out soon enough and they'll become next to useless.

Me? I went without it. Some days I think I should've got one, some I don't...

  19. No..... Real life and everyfink. He'd cut his leg off with a nail fine. Nasty business. Took ages to blutack it back on.

Either that or chest pains after his hernia op.... Can't remember.... I think I might have dreamt one of them.

  20. buy a gps blocker off ebay and a tracker is useless.

That's the easy way around any tracker. Does Biketrac use mobile phone mast triangulation to counter this?
