Why is my 900ss so clattery and jerky at times?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, Sep 13, 2012.

  1. All Dukes are like that! and the Triumph triple motor is a brilliant lump! Smooth, powerful, and a great sound!

  2. Good God, another one! All before 9:30am??

    INFIDELS!!

  3. Don't worry chaps. I'm selling my Triumph cos it has no soul. Character, yes, but no soul. I might buy a KTM...

  4. I did the quiet clutch thing to my 999. That made it seem smoother through traffic, less clattery stuff happening on/off throttle.

  5. That's Irony, right? Irony or Sarcasm.

I absolutely LOVED my T595 Daytona, 130 BHP, 160Mph top end (err I read in a brochure officer) and with the Carbon 3 into 1 pipe it sounded like Thor gargling drain cleaner. (which is a good thing) It was a real flip the coin moment when I bought the 900ss whether or not to go for another Daytona. Still might next year.

  6. Nope, not irony or sarcasm. 128bhp, 160mph top end (I did it, I didn't read about it:wink:), lovely gargly exhaust noise and perfectly good handling. But apart from sound great while you're riding it, it does nothing better than any other bike I've owned. The engine's a peach and no mistake, but I prefer the graceless lunge of a big V-twin or the soaring top end of an inline four. If you're a middling sort of rider - not thrashing your bike but not dawdling either - it'll suit you to a tee. My Multistrada's lucky if it's got 80bhp, but it's quicker in almost every environment apart from on the motorway. A rider's bike.

  7. My brother and I have discussed the point many times - he sees his VFR750 as being like my 900ss but better - smoother more precise and just as quick. I see the VFR as overweight, sanitised and muted compared to the living breathing duke. To be honest though in some ways they are different sides of the same coin, just at polar ends. Both are far more engaging than a generic inline four.

  8. light flywheels

below 3k they are a pain in the ****, they are not designed to be ridden around towns

if you want a v twin that is great to ride around town and functions below 3k harley have a wide choice to choose from, but on the open road the SS is a hell of a lot more bike than the alternative option
