950 Will I Miss The Power??

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Alan Murphy, Oct 11, 2024.

  1. That was the other Bike that I was considering.
I have a background in off road and love the Moto camping experience so on that note I pulled the pin today on a Desert X - new bike day incoming

    thanks for your input all

  2. Here's what I like about the Multi 1260 PP that's not necessarily available in-other Ducati models:
    • The comfort
    • The wind protection
    • The low-mid range torque
    • The cruise control
    • The heated grips
    • The fuel gauge.
What I don't like is the weight and size.

  3. This is exactly how I use my MTS 950S, and I am 70.
I never use full throttle on the 950S, I have simply passed that stage after my many, many years on sport motorcycles. So I don't see the need for extra HP, and I don't see the need for extra fuel consumption.
That said, the 950S is the heaviest (at least top heaviest) bike I've had, and I have to focus when moving it around not to get trapped by the weight.
That aside, my MTS 950S is a wonderful bike! :):upyeah:

  4. I think that’s available on almost all the models. Certainly S ones.

  5. Certainly not all 6 points. Perhaps only the Supersport S would comes close.

  6. I think he would be talking about the Multistrada S vs PP

  7. The only one of those the Desert X lacks is the same level of wind protection. That said, the wind protection on the V4 Multi is far superior to any of the V twin versions.

  8. So was I. I was comparing the Multi to others in #22 above.

  9. While that's true, the MTSV4 has the negatives I don't like namely: size and weight.
    Ducati's SuperSport needs a V4 sibling.

  10. Multi S, or at least my last one, had all that. Unless I’m missing something.

  11. I don't think you are missing anything, my MTS 950S 2021 has all the items listed.

  12. You're not missing anything. I was comparing the Multistrada (all of them) to other Ducati models.

  13. Ain’t gonna happen. Not as long as Ducati can bolt some bling to a current model and charge an extra few grand. Easy money.

  14. Yep. I test rode the V4S a few weeks ago and - regardless of other things - was shocked by just how big and heavy it felt compared to my 1200S. It really felt like a big tourer (which is fine if that's what you're after) rather than like a tall sports bike that happens to tour well.

  15. It has been interesting to follow this thread and read other people's experiences. My test ride of a V2 notwithstanding, I was surprised to check on the stats and see that it is heavier than my 1200S (2014), and that all subsequent generations of the 'big' Multi increase in weight too. I'm planning to keep my Multi for at least another four years, but it seems as though the V2 would be the closest replacement to it. I am not keen on getting anything substantially bigger or heavier.

I gather the latest GS is a little bit smaller and lighter than the 1250; I wonder if Ducati might go the same way for the next generation of Multi (not next years' refresh) and follow suit by making it a bit smaller?

  16. I think smaller bikes and smaller engines are the future. Interesting stats i was reading yesterday that big bike sales are down but mid range and smaller bikes are the big winners.

  17. Evermore crowded roads,
    More speed limit enforcement,
Bulk of motorcycle riders are getting older …
no science involved (!) just my feelings why things might be going that way

  18. When ever I drop into the UK on my bike, I instantly feel the increased road user count. In my opinion the roads in the UK are heavily over used with the level of vehicles now in the country. It's night and day crossing the channel in terms of road quality/space. I could easily pop from northern NL to Calais in a morning without so much as a fart of traffic. Yet the moment I get to the UK, it's chaos.

If I was still living in the UK, I'd not own a bike, and if I did, it'd be a cheap 500cc or similar as it will be hit, it will be dropped and it will take a beating on the Swiss cheese roads.

As for the speed limits, my recent trip to Wales was eye opening, unmarked police EVERYWHERE, cameras, EVERYWHERE. Thankfully, with a NL license plate, the camera system can only take pretty pictures of me as there still isn't an agreement on accessing driver databases outside of the UK when caught (aka, I could sit on a average speed of 55mph road doing 80mph and not be stung at all).

  19. Sadly no one in power in the UK wants to address the fact we have way too many vehicles on the road. When we stay out in France it’s like another world traffic wise. I can go out on my Triumph Scrambler and not see another vehicle for miles and miles. And even if you do they are more likely to pull out if your way than try and run you off the road. It’s so much more enjoyable than in the UK.

  20. What could they possibly do though?, wright 50% of us a letter saying we can only drive/ride three days a week and the other 50% the other three days and public transport on Sundays.....I wouldn't be too keen on that.
