848 Will Low-rev-riding Damage Engine?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by waynem325, Apr 21, 2014.

  1. And with a bigger rear sprocket...erm...wont that tighten the angle even more? ;)

  2. Are 748's stunt bikes?

  3. Dunno, but the yellow ones have a habit of blowing up ;)

  6. Another myth is that it'll dramatically reduce your top speed if you put a smaller front sprocket on. Yes, in theory it will reduce the effective top speed, but that doesn't take into account the wind pressure that won't allow the bike to rev out in top. With lower gearing the bike will more happily rev out, so the chances are in most situations it'll be just as quick.

  7. & That sir answers my question... & youll get there quicker too...

  8. Holy smoke Batman! I didn't mean to open a can of worms - you guys have been busy in my absence!

This gearing mallarky seems quite involved? Surely, if there were meant to be more or less teeth then Ducati would have produced the bike en-mass with those gears?

Is it safe to assume then that riding at or below 4k will indeed place more stress on the engine and increase component wear?
I'm happy to use the advice mentioned above and drop down a gear or 2.
I haven't had the bike long enough to make any changes to the gearing but I'll get a good feel for the bike by the end of the summer and be able to make a more educated decision then.

    Thanks to all

  9. What dates are you going and what's the itinerary?

  10. Well given the recent big end issues on multis, with some thinking thats a good reason for Ducati to refuse to repair, you know because you've ridden the torque at low revs rather than rev the tits off it, combined with oil which is not £80 a litre and replaced every 1000 miles, them i can only say live at 9-10k revs constantly and but a 200l barrel of the finest olive-oil looking stuff you can find ;)

Or just ride it how it suits you :)

  11. hi mate. not sure yet but will be over the summer. normally i'll ride down to the south coast then get the ferry to bilbao or santander, (depending on time of year). then ride down to seville which, i remember right, about 9 / 10 hours. i have a house in a small town just outside seville. then down to marbella, 230 kms further south.

    you'd be more than welcome!

  12. Yep...basically... if she starts chuggin.. drop a gear, or give er some more throttle...

  13. Sound advice :)

Cheers mate - that's very decent of you to offer. Is that 9 / 10 hours in 1 hit? I'd have to get myself bike-fit to embark on that!
I have quite a busy summer at the moment, and it's doubtful I could be spared from husband/fatherly duties, but you never know...I'm also currently flirting with the idea of joining the guys on here on their German jaunt too and am seeing if I can jiggle things around for that.
How long would you normally go for?

    That's what I'm thinking :)

  14. not sure yet, mate. normally about a week. 9 or 10 hours isn't bad considering we have to stop for fuel every hour or so... then a coffee and a tab. then some scoff and more coffee... :Dead:

i wouldn't mind doing the german run but my family are down in spain and i have to see them.

  15. That's it then, anyone know where i can get an 11 tooth front sprocket from?

  16. I'd -1 one of his teeth anytime!! Making us endure that shite!!

  17. My family were (up until recently) in Tenerife, and my in-laws are in Cyprus - the 2 most difficult islands to get to on a bike!!

I doubt I'll be able to commit a week off work as I'm already taking a fortnight, but if you do it annually I'll seriously look into tagging along next year?
