I've also dealt with 4th Dimension in the past before, and because I didn't want to use a hire bike from them as part of my claim, they had absolutely no interest in my bike or my claim..... Good luck with ya bike
keep us posted if no joy from the insurance how about getting as much off the bike and taking it on one part at a time someone else mentioned WD40, the stuffs amazing at what it can do, maybe it'll amaze here
I've tried WD40, no joy. I've also tried Graffiti remover: Scrubb Grafitti Remover 750ml - Screwfix and Vulcanet wipes. Only places I've got half a chance of cleaning are the shiney parts, which aren't many on a matt coloured bike.
Maybe worth a call, they mention removing paint splatter in their bumph https://www.jewelspassion.co.uk/ Even if they’re not local they should be able to advise you?
Just called them, going to send some photo's but much of that list is for Cars and not motorcycles. Going to send them some photos.
Cars come with matte paint and plastics, you can’t be the first person this has happened to. Good luck, got my fingers firmly crossed for you.
yes its shite, i would be beside myself, i think most of us would be one thing for sure it will get sorted in the end, its another mans Ducati
"The claim handler is 4th Dimension, what a bunch of W@Nkers!" Had dealings with this bunch of wankers before. Their favoured course of working is to write things off. Be careful. Very careful.
4th Dimension do like to write bikes off so it would seem but then they do have a sister company that then sells them on so they need stock. I’ve bought a few from them. That gloss paint would have come off easily with some white spirit if done on the day it happened.
@Sicilian have you spoken to the local Highway Authority regarding this? I've just been reminded that HA's have departments that undertake recovery of costs from Damage to County Property incidents; if by some chance the recovery team have identified who was responsible for the DCP (in this case the road surface), them you may have someone to claim against for your damage. Bugger all help in cleaning up the bike I'm afraid, but it might mitigate the insurance hike going forward. Good luck with getting it sorted.
Just thought I'd update this thread. As I initially thought the insurance have written this bike off. Settlement agreed with them I'm happy with. How much my premium will increase is now anyone's guess. I'm glad I had protected bonus. I've replaced with with a hugely discounted pre-reg Scrambler icon 800 with added quick shifter, heated grips and a few Evotech guards. Luckily I removed a number of items from this bike before the insurance collected it, so those parts will be fitted to the Icon.
NCB doesn’t protect you from anything, if you make a claim, your insurable risk goes up and so your premium goes up, NCB won’t protect you from that, personally I think it’s a fear tax and don’t think it’s worth protecting?
So far I feel I've got off lightly with this claim. Basically the claim was categorised as vandalism and a fault claim. Any way I insured its replacement today, which turned into a bit of a mission. My broker was saying I needed a letter from my insurer saying I'm allowed to replace the bike on my policy or if I didn't receive a letter I'd have to start a new policy. So called the insurer direct, turns out the letter was emailed yesterday, but I hadn't received it. After hours on the phone my policy was re-quoted for my V4 Pikes Peak and the new added Scrambler 800 icon (brand new pre-reg). I braced myself for the worst! They just charged me £32 to make the change, phew! They advised that due to my protected bonus I'd still get this years bonus as I'm allowed 2 claims in 5 years before your NCB gets affect. All in all I feel I got off lightly with this.
