Will This Ktm Finally Rival The Multi?

  1. I dunno, but I'd bet there's more ktm adventures used for off-road overall as you'd find more GS riders using them for the same.

If you were to compare a ktm and the multi it'd be more likely the smt vs the multi IMO, both are similar in riding position and style of riding they encourage, me and my mate go out on ours (multi & smt) all the time and they're extremely similar.

I'm just saying whilst the multistrada is Ducatis biggest offering at present it's still not really like the adventure , the multi can definitely be ridden in a far more focused back road blast kind of way whilst the ktm/GS type bikes are just that bit bigger and more cumbersome

  2. No you're not, your waiting for the new v4 rc16...... As am I :)

  3. That's as may be but the majority of KTM " adventure" bikes and GS's are ridden on exactly the same roads and conditions as the Multi, putting them in the same market place and hence my initial comparison.

  4. Not sure what I'd rather be on on a trail, KTM or Multi, the KTM is a spanking bike IMO and capable of off road, maybe not so much in the UK but worldwide think you'd find they do get used on rough roads etc..

What I want to know is why keep up sizing the motors, what's the point, why not focus on better MPG and lighter overall bike? Does make me chuckle that they chuck on another few CC's and people seem to think it makes a better bike when the rest is left undeveloped.

  5. @damodici we all know that V4 from KTM will blow your mind, but they say £200,000! from what I read...

  6. guess its all down to styling then. so for me it would be the pikes. i am kind of shallow that way.

  7. But the OP said Adventure / Multi, surly you have to compare them like for like, is the Multi cut out for the Dakar? I'm not sure it would last long? I mean do buyers look at that for example and think ultimate adventure bike? Pikes peak race yeah it flys so in that environment it works well doubt your do as well on the adventure...haha, maybe Ducati should use the 899 or a new Hyper motor in a spoked wheeled mini adventure bike like the F800.

  9. Yes and small numbers, 100 or so they reckon.

New unobtainium type Desmo esq bike?

It's going to have a trellis and a V4 engine, what's not to like? :)

  10. Yup, well, it could be $200k plus... So they reckon.

I've gotta be honest it's a pisser, I mean if they'd done them for circa $175k I'd of considered it, but as it is........IM OUT

  12. Well if its like the early bikes for the beast, it will, as thats eating engines and brakes too ;)

  13. The Adventure is a proper adventure bike that can go anywhere. The Multi is a touring bike in a nice suit. For most of us the multi is perfect as they just want to tour using real roads. But if you need to do some real rough terrain on your touring, then the ktm is the correct tool for the job. I prefer the KTM for adventure bikes'. I prefer Ducati for sports bikes and monsters.

The GS is a heavy, ugly pile of german pooh.

I'm considering shopping in my 1198 for an 'Adventure'. Ive always liked them and they have a V2. I could use a more practical bike as I have a 916 and an 1198. But I have also fallen for the MG V7. Whilst I will keep the 916 forever, I doubt my next bike will be a Ducati. I particularly like the V7 'stone'....

Never write off a gsxr750 though...i have an irrational love for gixxers.

  14. That's a shame, i've been wanting to buy a 990 SDR for a while now, always looking but having no local dealer and your experience is now putting me off. Thought they had a good reputation.

  15. has anyone on here done an enduro or long off road journeys on one of these bikes. how many times do you think the average biker could pick one of those walruses up in a day.

  16. Picking bikes up is easy as long as you learn the technique. Ive picked up far heavier older bikes, like old GS thou's and my Kat. Ive also picked up a gold wing when an old guy dropped it in a car park. Its all about technique. Unfortunately ive also picked up my 1198 twice and the 916 when it fell off the paddock. I am not an arnie lookalike. 10.5st 5'8" weed.

  17. Yeah I think it's pretty ugly but loads like that look; and also I think it's much more a 'real' adventure bike than the Multistrada tbh. I think the only comparison with the mutistrada at the mo really is the triumph tiger 1050, they are similar I think....

  18. Its not ET. One drop and it will break. The point of off road bikes are their durability. Ducati cant even make durable engines for them and the things have been recalled so often you may as well use the dealers workshop as your own garage.
