I very rarely drink nowadays and when I do, like last weeks stag weekend, it tends to be a proper scoop, and it may get messy. I don't or can't seem to drink in the house unless we have friends round for dinner, and then I may have one or two glasses of wine. And depending on what we're eating that will dictate whether it's red or white. But I have to say I prefer a full bodied red wine something like a Barolo.
Red or white depending on what you're eating. White wine isn't just for girlies. White burgundies are wallet shrinking delights. But white for the apéritif, and the red is for the cheese. A good meal should have both. Then you finish off with port/whiskies/armagnac/schnapps, depending on mood. At least, I do.
A nice chilled Pinot does me, cant drink beer anymore, anything over a pint and im belching like a goodun !!!!!!!
Currently enjoying Chilean Shiraz. I rarely find a French red that I like but then I tend not to spend more than a few quid on a bottle of wine. Maybe expensive French red wine is OK ...
Try things from the Rhône Valley. Not normally expensive and much better value than the wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux which trade on their name. Corbières is good too for quaffable stuff. New World wine often flatters but quickly becomes dull. I almost never drink it but in the UK it tends to be what is available. It's in your face from first sip and then seems unsubtle.
I used to enjoy Cahors but don't see it much these days I nice Villagers if not - hate cheap white but cheap red is fine
spot on , last weekend I enjoyed a lovely Louis Latour white burgundy, whilst heading into this weekend it will be a glass of nice red, a St Emilion, ch. st George's 2007. Both courtesy of collecting points on credit card and converting into liquid assets via a top London wine merchant! Lovely stuff. That was a welcome delivery last month of four cases....white burgundy, st Emilion, Rioja and a Chablis.
