Won't Get Fueled Again

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Lazzzydog, Sep 12, 2021.

  1. Short the 2 wires going to the switch, on the 999 this bypassed the side stand switch

  2. Coming down towards the switch I have 2 black wires, a black with a red tracer and a black with a yellow tracer that is piggybacked off the neutral sensor so it isn't that straightforward. I'm worried that if I make the wrong circuit I might cook the ecu.

  3. There should definitely only be 2 wires from the switch and 3 from the relay, I’ve just checked mine and there are only 2, I know this might be a bit of an obvious question, but have you drained the tank and tried fresh fuel, i know mine can be a bit temperamental.

  4. I know 2 people who would look at your bike mate but you'd have to travel to them.

  5. Great, I will need to scrounge a trailer or a van but I really need help from somebody clued up so if you can let me know how far I away they are I can weigh up the options.

  7. https://bikealarmman.com/
i’ve used this guy several times but a fair few years ago. He used to go on the road to do dealer fits etc and then do private clients on his way between jobs/home etc.
Not sure if he still does but he certainly knew his stuff.

  8. Great lead, thanks. He's coming next week to remove the old alarm so that's a good start towards sorting the job out. ️

  9. Excellent, he really does know his stuff. He probably wont remember me as he did my stuff about 06-08, the fact he’s still up and running proves something.

  10. Thanks for all the replies so far chaps, I'm well on the way to sorting it now. Once the alarm is removed I will have another crack at it myself but now I've got two good options if I decide to travel a bit further afield.
I did speak to an electrics specialist called Ferret in the week but he was talking mega money, up to 3k to sort the job so that's a bit rich for me, but I'm sure it would have been spot on after a complete rewire.

  11. Good news comrades, the greatest Italian tenor of all time sings again. The bikealarmman came yesterday and worked his magic on removing the spaghetti that was the old redundant alarm and later bodges to bypass the sidestand switch. That got the bike back to original and turning over with a strong spark, I then had a doctors appointment so put her away until today.
Tank off and a little inflammable spray down the intakes and she fired up and ran so fuel is now the issue. I had heard the pump priming but was it making pressure? Obviously nothing was getting to the injectors so I split the line to them and that was dry too, bugger I was just about to remove the fuel pump assembly yet again when I decided to check the recently fitted aftermarket dry breaks and struck gold, the outlet was dodgy and not letting fuel past even though the pump was creating pressure. I have buggered about and got it working again but I'm now on the lookout for some better fittings.
Many thanks to Drinky for the lead to alarmman who I cannot recommend highly enough to anyone with alarm issues or if you need a new alarm fitted 100% professionally.
    Until the next drama.
    Tony. :upyeah:

  12. Can you not get the OEM fittings?

  13. Exactfit UK are now selling metal quick release fuel couplings. £99 a set

  14. The originals on the fuel pipes do not come as a separate item so you have to buy the complete assembly which was around £200 the last time I looked, and you would still need to buy 2 new tank fittings so it's a bit pricey.

  15. Cheers, I'm about to order a set right now, hoping there might be a forum discount?

  16. Looking back these fittings came from Exact UK via eBay in July last year so I'm hoping for some product support from them.

  17. Ah, I thought you meant the tank fittings,

  18. Feck me that was quick! Exactfit have cut me a deal via email this evening and are posting in the morning. Above and beyond.
    Thanks Stu. :motorcycleduc:

  19. Power of the forum

  20. The parts from Exactfit arrived in the first post early Tuesday morning. The plastic fittings failed again during a warm up so I knew the metal ones would be money well spent, early days but it's nice to have a good starting and running bike again. I couldn't see any reason why the fitting was failing but I suppose nothing is infallible.
    What have I learned,
One of the best tips that somebody on here gave me (sorry can't remember who) was to mount the fuel tank facing backwards resting on the seat subframe, then so long as you're careful you can turn it over or run it while seeing what's happening with the injectors.
Call in the cavalry when you're stumped.
Ask on here, somebody has the answer.
Old Ducatis come with baggage but don't give up.

    Roll on next summer
    Tony.
