Would You Buy A Second Hand Helmet?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Drinky, Sep 3, 2016.

  1. Used lids feel great. That's why guys buy them.

The musky smell of unwashed hair is the new smell of a used lid.

  2. A new motorcycle helmet is a foreign object. A used motorcycle helmet fits like a second skin.

  3. You "saved" £250. If you value your head so low, I am glad your got a bargain - used twice, dropped once.

I have never seen a weirdo at any bike event trying on the helmets to see which one fits best and smells worse. It would be quite entertaining to see the "bargain hunter" have the sh1t kicked out of him...

  4. A lot of guys will say "yes," if you ask first to try on their worn in lids.

  5. Especially if it's from a female.:mask:;)

  6. If that is most compatible for you, then go for it!

  7. I wouldn't buy a second hand crash helmet any more than I would wear someone else's shreddies, washed or un-washed !!:joy:
Each to their own though !:upyeah:

  8. That is just weird - like someone asking to try on your pants...

  9. And think you effing weird.

  10. It's not all that unusual.

  11. One you actually put on a well worn lid, you'll never wear a new one, again.

  12. You are aware that most Helmets have a removable and washable internal liner/padding.

  13. Wash?
    Wash?

That's definitely not on trend here....

  14. 2nd hand lid? No, fuck that...

  15. NO.
Since I was old enough to ride legally on the road, the only time I have ridden in a helmet that I did not buy new was when some low-life stole my Black+Gold Nava from under a stool in the pub and I didn't notice till late on. One of my mates had a spare lid in his car so I used it rather than leaving my bike at the pub.

  16. Puffer jackets are washable, too, but they're never the same after they've been washed. If you want your helmet's comfort liner to last, the way to clean it is to sweat in it. Air flows through the lid, carrying most dirt to the exhaust vents at the back. Sweat also contains sebum, an oil that conditions the padding, keeping it soft.

  17. Have you ever tried? You'll forget your preconceived notions about used headgear after you've gone for an all day ride on a hot day. After you're buckled into a used lid, it only takes a little while to get used to the smell, and then what you'll notice is how comfortable it is.

  18. I find this thread very odd!

  19. nope, never.. funny how most used stuff for sale has been "used two or three times"

happy to sell my used stuff (advertised honestly) but no way I'm wearing someone else's used clothes/boots/helmet/boxers.

  20. Phew! Thought it was just me!
