Yes I don’t disagree. wearing the right gear is important And I always do when out on a ride. For example. Was on off road ride for the weekend in the Swartburg Mountains. When I literally hit powder sand doing not more than 80 - 100 km/hr (and not concentrating). Lost the front end and down I went. I had been wearing good off road gear+ boots, and I did not get a scratch. All good and back running in 5 mins That was on a KTM990, I don’t take the MS offroad see pic with red trace

I've nearly done the same with jeans or even waterproofs over the boots. Now I always lift my leg a little more than needed and have a more noticeable stretch outwards with my leg when I'm in WPs cos of catching them on the peg as I put my foot down in the past. Ankle looks real nasty. Hope you make a quick recovery.
