You'll love it on the Panigale. Keep it light. Less is more.

  2. When I married her she had an old Honda thing, a Blackbird or something. She used to get jealous on continental trips because my BMW K1200GT had ABS, heated grips and a heated seat. She would tell people that she didn't need heated grips as she could put her hands down the back of my pants when we stopped!

  4. Small tank bag for documents, passport etc. Essential.
I made this one. Well, I got my wife to stitch it for me.
Cut out the magnets so as not to demagnetise credit cards.
Sew on webbing and buckles to fit Bagster system.

Oh yeah, grip puppies, highly recommended for touring. image.jpeg

  5. The back?

  6. Yes, she was only interested in the residual heat from my seat after a cool couple of hundred miles! ;-)

  7. Oh the disappointment.

  8. Just going through this thread here...

Couple of us heading to Germany in June. thats the plan anyway !!!

Been there before, so we will base ourselves in Garmisch. The surrounding areas is a just pure biking mecca. And the cops are nice ppl too, as long as you aint being too crazy. You can reach plenty of good routes while you are there too. Garmsich is a great base camp and not a bad little town. Lots og great full days ride outs to be had.

Im going to go with the kriega on my new Pani ( must put up a thread ), as I have used them before on the 749. 20 + 10 tail packs. Enough for a week or so. I travel light and use disposable smalls. Handy, no washing !!

By the way, i take it the 1199 pani like any bike is fairly frugal on a constant move, once you aint attempting 3rd & 4th gear roll ons all the time ? :grimacing:

I see kriega do a fitting kit for the 1199 - anyone used the fitting kit or did you use some anti slip matt material and just bolt onto the seat - the conventional way ?

    Panigale fit-kit - Kriega

    Fitting instructions:
    Fitting
Remove seats and bodywork to access the Ducati rear seat strap nuts.
Fit the 2 front loops to the seat strap bolts using the existing Ducati washers and nuts (M6).
Fit the 2 rear loops with the black washers using the Ducati bodywork allen head bolts (M5).
Replace the bodywork and seats with the 4 x loops in position.

FYI was searching, found these threads too....

But not the 1299, unless this has changed, see here:

  9. Never heard of grip puppies, i assume they are the foam grips in the photo.
Where did you get them from?

  10. eBay, grip puppies from Motorcycle Road and Race, Ashford Middlesex. £13.99 inc pnp.
This guy gets it out to you real quick, usually next day.good service.

Basically foam slip over tube takes pressure off your hands. Also thickens up the grip which I like.
    Just makes it more comfortable.

Recommended to me by a guy I met at Box Hill through the forum. Glad I got them.

  11. I will need a set of tyres that will last the mileage (2500 + mileage in UK on return)
What have you used on your 1199 Panigale's for touring?

  12. I wouldn't bother trying to make them last any longer than 2500 miles on a Panigale if you've been touring. You could do it but they will be horribly squared off. Most of the decent sports touring tyres will do the job, personally I used Pirelli Rosso Corsas coming back through Italy and France. They have a harder compound in the middle that resists squaring off for longer than the Supercorsas but are still soft on the edges so perform well.

Fitted these to my 899, it's best to angle the grab handle fittings slightly forwards and I ended up removing the grab handle itself in order to get the seat cowl to fit flush!

  14. I would fit a set of Z6s or Z8s if I wanted to go long distance touring, they have hard compound in the centre as do all sports touring tyres these days. What many people seem to have problems understanding is that even in continental Europe we have bike tyres, the same makes and sizes as the UK even. In many cases they can even be cheaper over here.

  15. cheers Bob
I understand you can get tyres just didn't want to stop riding to change a tyre.
Not sure sport touring tyres can be found in Panigale 1199 size, think it will have to be 190s

  16. Sorry forgot about the size. I ride an 848 so we have the same sized tyres on that, the ST2 and the BMW F800GT, makes life easy.
There is a Metzler Z8 in 190 55 ZR17, I would pay €134 (£103.51) for that delivered to my house. fitting is €10 for a loose wheel locally.

  17. With apologies to Royal I have to disagree about tyres. I fitted Metzler M7rr's. Highly recommended. Check out the reviews on here. I got 3500 miles out of them, touring. Dual compound so less squaring off, great grip in corners. When you're touring you just don't cane it as much so the tyres last longer anyway.

The bike turns in much quicker, they warm up quicker too.
I'll be buying more soon. What more can I say.

  18. Fair one Sam, that's good going. I do tend to go through tyres pretty quick so maybe not the best comparison.

  19. I have M7RRs on the 848 too. All the other bikes have Z6s. I expect the M7s to wear quicker, but even if I go south on a trip I am located 500 miles south of the channel anyway so probably won't wear anything out.

  20. What size bag were they and what do you think I could get away with for 3/4 nights? Cheers
